A HAIRDRESSER with a difference has opened his doors for the first time in South Derbyshire.
REE-style Barbers is the brainchild of 25-year-old Ree Acun, originally from Mersin, on the South coast of Turkey, who moved to London to develop his hairdressing skills.
He has now decided to ply his trade in the area by letting a site in West Street, Swadlincote, with help from Burton, Derby and Nottingham-based property consultants Salloway.
The prominent position of the former coffee shop is proving an immediate success for attracting clients, aged from four upwards, who are looking for the latest in custom haircuts.
The ground floor of the salon has been restored with wood-block flooring and 'brick' wallcoverings, with furnishings and three-piece leather suites to provide people somewhere to wait before they have their locks lopped off.
There is also a large high-definition widescreen television, placed opposite the three hairdressers' chairs, which displays the latest styles created for clients, using photographs taken on their previous visits.
Mr Acun said: "This presentation of our hairdressing skills is proving to be a masterstroke and fits exactly with my style that offers skilful cutting and styling of hair, along with traditional Turkish hospitality.
"We have brought the traditional accompaniments of head massage, ear waxing, eyebrow plucking, as well as beard cutting, to pamper and delight each of our clients."
Hairdressing at the salon is also offered by Ivan Namat, (who has eight years' experience), and Anna Johnston (10 years in this business), who offer complementary styles along with a drink of Turkish tea or coffee.
"All my team excel in our special European haircutting techniques that exploit scissor-cutting as well as trimming that are perfect for today's shorter haircuts and shaving," added Mr Acun.
"Our ability to offer 'drop-in' hairdressing, without the need for an appointment, is a particularly powerful selling-point for many of our clients who are looking for 'cool' haircuts.
"We follow a Turkish style right down to the special aftershaves that we use which are uniquely sourced from my home country".
Ree Acun was advised by Anwar Hussain, of Salloway's Burton office, during the letting process.
He said: "Ree has introduced a completely new approach to hairdressing in Swadlincote.
"The renovated ground floor exploits the character of the property with its wide picture windows making it into a highly desirable salon that is already regularly visited by his growing clientele.
"It is what is being increasingly seen as 'another vital addition to the High Street".
