Salloway has completed the letting of 25 High Street on a three-year lease to the Reach the People Charity. Managed by Gina Barsby, the new double fronted retail outlet is located in a prime position close to the Morrisons and Somerfield food stores.
"The current economic situation has made charity shops key destinations for many shoppers over weekends, as well as during the week," said Gina. "The additional space to extend our charitable work and support made number 25 highly attractive to us."
The premises has a ground floor retail area of some 100 sqm and the charity is using the first floor for an informal drop-in and advice centre.
Anwar Hussain, associate at Salloway in Burton, said: "We were keen to show Reach the potential that these premises would offer them for their fund-raising. The 16 and a half-foot frontage onto the busiest street in the town was a key deciding factor.
"For larger, bulky items, including furniture, there is rear access for loading and this can also be used for other deliveries, once the outlet is working close to capacity."
Reach is one of the leading social charities in the Midlands, dedicated to supporting vulnerable individuals and local communities. The new Swadlincote store is staffed by 13 volunteers from around the town and district.
Reach is constantly seeking donations of clothes, shoes, bric-a-brac and toys in good condition so that it can continue to build its funds. Those wishing to make donations are invited to visit their new store or contact Gina Barsby on 07733 000 204.
